Ferre laid down the water-based paint with a 1.5 coat method, meaning he first sprays one full coat of color, followed immediately by a half cross coat to even out metallic. DuPont’s high solids formulation allows this type of wet-on-wet technique whereas other waterborne paints will spray more like solvent based and require multiple coat full coats. Interestingly, waterborne paint initially looks much darker than its final color; it lightens noticeably as it dries to a beautiful satin sheen. From here, we only nib sanded a few spots with 600 to remove minor imperfections.
