The stock valve on the left shows the best position for the outer diameter of the seat, just a few thousandths of an inch from the edge of the valve. The valve on the right shows that the cylinder head seat was cut too small for the size valve, and is wasting curtain area. Only on exhaust valves should the cylinder head seat show up in the middle of the valve seat, as they need extra material for heat control. View Related Article
