For dyno purposes, the 383 was fitted with Hooker 1.75-inch chassis headers and an electric water pump. The low-buck mill didn’t disappoint, producing 446 hp at 5,900 rpm, and loads of midrange torque. A testament to the efficiency of the heads, the motor needed just 34 degrees of ignition advance.
