If you let your machinist know you have a dial-bore gauge and plan to double-check their work, they might get a little offended, but more than likely will concentrate a little harder on making sure your bores are round and straight. A Sunnen gauge and setting fixture like this will set you back close to $2,000, but there are several more inexpensive gauges available that you can use a micrometer to set, and they prove to be quite accurate.
