Scott Shafiroff Racing Engines Dyno
All engines from Scott Shafiroff Racing Engines (SSRE) are run on the dyno before being shipped to the customer. Here our low-deck, 598 big-block is bolted to the dyno where it produced 795 hp and 768 lb-ft. It runs on pump gas.

Scott Shafiroff Racing Engines Block
SSRE uses "Production Precision," according Scott Shafiroff. It is a process that allows a smooth and trouble-free assembly of any SSRE engine. One of the foundations of the process is parts that fit properly, which is accomplished through consistent machining and careful planning. For example, the blocks machined specifically for the lifters SSRE are included in its engines. The streamlined engine-building process allows SSRE to pass along cost savings to the customers without sacrificing quality and performance. The menu of choices also allows the customer to tailor the engine to his desires.

The bores are enlarged to 4.600 inches in the Dart Big M low-deck (9.8-inch) engine block. SSRE also deburrs the block, smooths the edges, clearances the block, works the lifter bores, line hones the mains, and ensures the deck is straight and perfect.

An Eagle 4.500-inch stroker crankshaft and Eagle H-beam connecting rods are standard in the SSRE 598. The Eagle rods for this build are the optional 4340 3-D pieces with ARP L19 bolts. That's a $125 upgrade. Customers have the option to upgrade to a Callies Dragonslayer 4340, heat-treated crankshaft and Manley rods, if they are looking for higher output. Those parts are standard in the nitrous package.

Scott Shafiroff Racing Engines Crossover
The Dart Big M block is a tough chunk of iron. Most enthusiasts will notice the four-bolt main caps, but there is more to this block than meets the eye. What you don't see is the priority-main oiling system, which Dart designed into the block from its inception. The oil lubricates the main bearings before the lifters, providing extra reliability. The main oil galley uses a stepped process to increase flow to the crank at high rpm. The block also features a front crossover, which eliminated common oil leaks around the distributor shaft.
