Since input clutch drums are laser welded during the manufacturing process, even brand-new units are often warped. As is evident on this well-worn Reverse drum (left), an uneven surface results in reduced surface area for the band to clamp around. Machining .010 inch off of its drums (right) yields a perfectly smooth band apply surface that's concentric to the center of the drum. View Related Article
