The 700-R4 incorporates both an input and reaction planetary set. The reaction unit used by Phoenix (right) significantly reduces drag over the factory piece (left) to minimize parasitic power loss. Cutting friction here is critical, as the planetary gears turn far greater rpm than the engine. The reaction hub's heat-treated splines also resist twisting and breakage behind high-horsepower engines. View Related Article
