The Inside ScoopThis being my personal car, I've had years to observe the strengths and weaknesses of this particular '68 Camaro. It's always fought me through the turns, arguing to go straight when I really wanted it to turn. This was mostly due to the insufficient negative camber dialed into the front, limited by the upper control arm and header tube clearance. I like to take my car to track days and enjoy the work I've put into it. The goal is to try and prove to the late-model muscle and high-tech imports that the Camaro is a capable contender. Unfortunately, that battle is hard to win when your suspension isn't compatible with turning. This had to be remedied, since my need for speed was stronger than the capability of my car's setup. Guided by testimonials, I spoke with the Global West team at SEMA, and it was apparent they were as enthusiastic as I was about the idea of testing their parts on my car.
How Bad Is Your Ride?Up front is where the real improvements are made. The Camaro's biggest suspension problem is that through the travel, the loaded wheel goes from negative to positive camber. Positive camber-the outward tilt of the top of the wheel looking at it from the front-causes the tire to "peel up," leaving only a small percent of the tire to contact the road.
