They've had a few posts about early street racers in the '60's, you may even see a mention of what you're looking for. you might get lucky with Massachusetts' version of the Small Business Association, there may be a member who started working there or was a competitor who can joggle their memory and get you closer.

I loved the Christopher Campbell article in the June 2013 issue of PHR. It all made sense and I happily counted the mods from the list that I have already made, (nine), which brings me to the point of my post. I only counted ten mods in the article, not eleven. Despite having a Directv two page insert stuck in the middle of this article, I don't believe I'm missing a page. Just re-read the article about the trans in the 68 Nova project and realized the Turbo 400 Switch Pitch converter setup was used. I ran this in a 78 Monte Carlo behind a 406 that made about 550HP and I loved it. Only difference is that I wired mine to the brake light switch so I could control it with my left foot. I set the brake light switch to come on with only slight movement of the pedal. Worked great and didn't need my hands to do it.

hey im doing a jeep cj5 sand jeep, and im wanting to put a turbo on my sbc 400. its mildly built,( eldebrock intake, bigger heads, bigger cam, headers, with a turbo 350 tranny and a 3500 torque converter,) its also a 2 bolt main. im wanting to turbo it beacuse my brother is building a 383 stroker, and my dad is doing a twin turbo 351. but i dont really anything about turbos. so if you have segestions and what i would need to do to make it work, please tell me.

Hello to all!!! I'm new here so please somebody out there I need help here is my problem: I have an older block from the 70's 350 chevy motor. I have fresh fuel coming in no bad gas or anything like that. I have spark as well giving out even checked the timing which is set as well had carb completely rebuild with guaranteed from a local shop. Motor turns but will not stay on everything is pretty much all new or replaced. What am I missing that is not making the car stay on? I really want this car to run already! :confused: please anybody out there that could help please let me know I really don't want to bring it to a shop. I did all the work myself checked everything before I started and nothing is happening. What I did notice was gas is not sucking into carb but when I pump carb gas goes right in so what gives? is there vacuum? I have a 650 holley street fighter avenger please let me know what you think I'm doing wrong or should be doing?

Both Holley and Edelbrock make nice replacement carbs. You'll want a 600-650cfm. Holley makes a carb just for the trucks. Vacuum secondaries, electric choke and they are tunable. Your gas mileage will have to increase...LOL... The linkages are all there also. Go to Jegs.com Don't go any bigger than 650CFM.... It won'r help you at all... Bob

G'day, A Mate of mine in the USA told me about an article that was published in Engine Masters entitled "Pressure Feed." He noted it was an how to article discussing how to drill the thrust bearing oil feed to provide additional oil flow and pressure to the thrust face. He told me it was in the Winter 2011 issue of Engine Masters. I ordered a copy and it arrived today. It takes just 15/100ths of a second for all 6,000+ horsepower of an NHRA Top Fuel dragster engine to reach the rear wheels. Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 1-1/2 gallons of nitro methane per second; a fully loaded 747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate with 25% less energy being produced. A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to drive the dragster's supercharger. With 3,000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into a near-solid form before ignition. Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock at full throttle. At the stoichiometric (stoichiometry: methodology and technology by which quantities of reactants and products in chemical reactions are determined) 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture of nitro methane, the flame front temperature measures 7,050 deg F. Nitro methane burns yellow... The spectacular white flame seen above the stacks at night is raw burning hydrogen, dissociated from atmospheric water vapor by the searing exhaust gases. Dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. This is the output of an arc welder in each cylinder. Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass. After halfway, the engine is dieseling from compression, plus the glow of exhaust valves at 1,400 deg F. The engine can only be shut down by cutting the fuel flow. If spark momentarily fails early in the run, unburned nitro builds up in the affected cylinders and then explodes with sufficient force to blow cylinder heads off the block in pieces or split the block in half. You run the 'Vette hard up through the gears and blast across the starting line and pass the dragster at an honest 200 mph. The 'tree' goes green for both of you at that moment. The dragster launches and starts after you. You keep your foot down hard, but you hear an incredibly brutal whine that sears your eardrums and within 3 seconds, the dragster catches and passes you. He beats you to the finish line, a quarter mile away from where you just passed him. Iknew a ford would win the street div.! the hemi p.36& the ford p.38 have the exact same dyno chart! so the ford with fewer cubic inches wins! now you'll tell me it's a faux-pas. seriously-a great event,excellent articles,super photos. keep up the good work. I love stroker fords as i have a 501 cube,4.1" stroke 460 & a420cube 4.15 stroke 351. The 420 is in my 1600# vintage road race 37 ford "Fomoco2". but the 501 is still in the machine shop. if i knew how i'd send some photos.

I got my February '13 issue and there it was... a 69/70 Mustang! See a few years ago (actually more than a few), I too drove around a 69/70 Mustang Mach I. Before I bought the car, in 1979, someone had installed a '69 front clip on the '70 Mach I. I had a lot of fun with the confused people trying to figure out what it was. The license plate I had didn't help them any, the plate was "THE 6970". I still have the car, in pieces. It will be my project when I am not working on my kids projects.

motorman775 I think they believe everyone knows to through the basic parts away or have them checked. I myself don't rely on much of what I read anymore. I build custom, and hi performance engines also. I tell a new customer what he needs to do it right,if he doesn't like it. Take your stuff to the guy down the street. He'll build you anything you want, whether it lasts or not thats your gamble. It's that simple.... "Our Motto" is this.
