First what does it mean when you say that you installed the comp springs at 1.750 inches? Second after milling the heads did you have to shim the rocker shaft assembly if so how much? Third after you mill the heads did you take any material off the intake side of the heads or the intake itself or was it still a bolt on deal. Thanks Kyle.

I am a soldier in the U.S.Army. I am also a classic car freak. I use to be in to the mainstream cars big time. Then I found my project that changed that. My project car is a 1976 Mercury Cougar XR-7 with numbers matching 400m and C6 trans. The one pictured in my avatar. I bought it a few years ago for $600.00 out of the need for a car so my wife would have a car when I wasn't around. By the time I got home. A total drive of about 6 miles. Yes I drove it home. I was in love. Now I know that the cougar is an overlooked car and this body style is even overlooked by even the most hard core cougar fans. But I see potential in the big cat. After all it is a torino under the sheet metal My plans are to make the cat original-ish looking on the out side but under the skin a major restomod. I have already started but it has been hard to do any thing on a regular driver that can't be complete in a few hours to 1 day. But that should change soon when I come home from Iraq. Since I plan to get a regular driver My questions are what are some places that I can get parts that will not cost me an arm and a leg? I am set on the engine since it shares a lot of its parts with the 351c. And also what are some of your suggestions? I know that this car probably will never grace the covers of car mags but I would like to see it make it into the readers rides one day. Other than that I just love driving it.

I came in after the movie started. 1. What are the short block specs. They are not re-capped that I could see. Clearances, piston mfg., ring pack set-up, compression ratio, piston deck height, gas ports or not?. 2. Any reason why you used the Tti's on the Indy 2d test, instead of the (apparently welded together) Hooker 5302s that are on the 6-pack engine at the end of the mag? This engine (especially in its solid roller iteration) seems stout enough to benefit from them. 3. In the art. you say that you are charry about using as much as 377# over the nose with a flat tappet cam. For years we used a lot more than that (like Crane 99396-16 installed at 1.875) with the mopar 296degree/.557 f-t cam* and 1.6:1 rockers) with no problems - per the mfgr. recs. Are you saying that because of the loss of ZDDP? If using such an engine in a race (brkt, S/ST) application, a lack of ZDDP in the oil would not be a major impediment; you could get its functional equivalent elsewhere. 4. the 2d -isn't that a super cool intake?- is described as "ported". How do you mean; CNC'd to a 7 degree taper all the way down to the flange?, smoothed and with altered plenum to port entry and port match to the 295's max wedge port window? extrude honed? other? 5. that timing set is sswwee . . .(nope, I just can't say it - old school) Bitchin'! (tho that block's been line bored pretty good, yes?) Will the nylon thrust button live on the street? Is it actually sturdier than the roller bearing versions? Would one be wise to reinforce the timing cover where it bears? 6. since you have built and/or seen plenty of cutting edge BBMs - wedge and hemi - at the engine masters competitions, what, if any, evidence do you have that a (cam) belt drive really saves the bearings? One would think that as loose as most (like THAT ONE!) timing chains are, all the harmonics would be damped out, anyway. *btw, my last cam core measured out with those duration and net lift numbers AT THE RECOMMENDED LASH!! I checked #1 three times. I just couldn't believe it. Then #3, #2 and #5. all the same. It was over .620 at zero lash, cold on the stand. What's up with THAT? Did somebody mis-label the box? If so, they etched the wrong pn into the end of the cam too. The rockers were std Crane Gold 1.6 roller rockers (though I did not check the ratio). It was supposedly a std. 0661 stick, that came from the Mopar trailer at the drags. Weird, bordering on payo sopies! Enlighten me, please, learned one. Although I love protouring and high end cars it seemed like that all your guys were doing. Me being in my mid 30's with a family all these cars in your mag were just dream cars. Now it seems like your featuring all kinds of cars.....drag/protouring/beaters/etc. I really love the current project cars the Chevelle and the Fairlane. You guys are really taking them to the strip and getting real world times. Not drag simulators and stuff. Even though the may not run the times they should you guys have the balls to post it. Just like us regular guys who go threw the ups and downs with our builds! Now I finally feel my car is worthy of a mag spread...its a real world car that I drag race/hit cruise nights/family trips. It has to do it all! Again guys..keep up the great work!
