We had a blast yesterday at the Nitto Tires Racing Rivals event at the Irwindale Speedway in Irwindale, California. The event featured the release of the brand-new iPhone app that pits drag racers against one another for a true-to-life, street-racing simulation. Racing Rivals, a game designed by CIE Games Inc., made its online debut August 29, 2013. The app is free to download and is also available on the iPad.
The event kicked off with an introduction from the Nitto Tire company and the developers at CIE that worked on Racing Rivals. Johnny Hunkins (editor-in-chief of PHR), Jeff Smith (tech editor of Car Craft Magazine), and K.J. Jones (tech editor of 5.0 Mustangs and Super Fords) were all in attendance as we learned about the drag racing game and the partnership with Nitto.
The group of media was divided in two and sent off to have some fun. Group one spent the first half of the day under a tent duking it out on iPad minis in a Racing Rivals bracket race. Group two was sent to the control booth at the Irwindale Speedway to take part in drag racing. Each participant took turns racing the new Edelbrock 2013 supercharged mustang down the eighth-mile track to get a sense of what it was like to actually drag race and to demonstrate reaction speed.
Once groups one and two finished their events, they switched stations and competed again. At the end of the day, two prizes were given: a championship ring to the person who won the Racing Rivals bracket race and an iPad mini to the driver with the best reaction time on the racetrack.
We’d like to send a huge shout-out and big “thank you” to Nitto for renting out the track. All the media were given passes for the evening to enjoy watching drag racing. It also paid for the first 100 driver’s admission for the evening’s drag racing. Umami Burger was also on hand, dishing out a fantastic meal for everyone who came. Be sure to check-out the new video game HERE and compete online against people nationwide to see who’s fastest.
