“Green” Car Care Products
We grew up using Eagle One products to clean our rides—they were part of our hot rodding soundtrack over the years, and they’ve always provided the results we could be proud of on the boulevard and at the car show. As we grow older, our attention turns increasingly to the environment and sustainability; when one of our favorite car care manufacturers comes out with an environmentally friendly product line, like Eagle One has with their EnviroShine line, we take notice. Eagle One’s “green” line includes All Wheel & Tire Cleaner, Tire Shine, Car Wash, and Glass Cleaner made with environmentally safe ingredients that are nontoxic, biodegradable, and free of harsh solvents. The products were developed with the latest technology to provide unbeatable performance and results, in eco-friendly formulas.
Eddie Motorsports has recently added to their line of billet aluminum hood hinges for Chevy Impalas, which also includes hinges for ’61-68 and ’70 Impalas. These are CNC machined from billet 6061-T6 aluminum and use stainless steel nitrogen-filled gas struts in place of the stock coil springs. They also use high-quality needle bearings for a smooth operation. EMS hinges are direct-fit “bolt-on” units that use the stock elongated mounting holes for ease of gap adjustment. Eddie’s billet hinges are offered for steel, fiberglass, or carbon-fiber hoods with a machined or brightly polished finish, or in a wide variety of fusion-coated colors.
As auctions continue to drive the price of restorations higher, it’s becoming critical to restore an original muscle car engine with the proper camshaft. Whether you’re concerned about maintaining the original factory idle, tune-up calibrations, lift numbers, dynamic compression ratio, or having the correct factory part number, you will want to check out Crane’s Blueprint series of camshafts. We recently had the chance to talk with the Crane folks while we were at the Performance Racing Industry trade show in Orlando, Florida, and discovered that they are offering virtually every stock camshaft profile for every muscle car engine (Chevrolet, Ford, Buick, Pontiac, Olds, and Chrysler) made between 1955 and 1981. Some of them are as plain Jane as the Chevy 350 LT-1, while others are more esoteric, like the Pontiac “McKellar #10” stick. All carry a factory part number (for instance, the Shelby 505hp 427 is C3AZ-6250-AA) as well as a Crane part number. Naturally, Crane can also help you with your other restoration valvetrain needs, so give them a call and tell them PHR sent you!
Flaming River’s new Telescoping Tilt Column enables 1 inch of column adjustability by simply moving the steering wheel toward or away from the driver. A spring-loaded design uses a billet lever for smooth and easy adjustment for driver comfort and clearance. The styling is based on the early Corvette steering column, a sleek and streamlined unit with 2-inch diameter stainless tubing. The Top-Hat Tele column comes in standard 30- or 32-inch lengths—other lengths are available through Flaming River’s custom manufacturing program. All Flaming River steering columns have a three-year/36,000-mile warranty, and are made in the United States.
XADO Maximum is a new metal conditioner for gasoline, LPG, and diesel engines, which is designed to restore, repair, and protect car engines during operation. Just add one 225ml bottle of XADO Maximum to the engine oil. According to the manufacturer, revitalization begins immediately and will be complete after 750 miles. A patented nanotechnology is said to form a self-regulating metal-ceramic coating on the surface of parts, which repairs wear and extends their life span. Molecules of a two-phase complex metal conditioner interact with the parts, forming smooth and extremely durable surfaces with low friction. XADO claims that one application of Maximum will give your car up to 100,000 miles of improved performance, including better gas mileage (on average a 5.6 percent increase in mpg), increased power, and decreased noise and vibration.
Other claimed advantages include strengthening engine parts, restoring lost compression and oil pressure, protection against damage from cold starts, and double the engine life. The fuel additive is compatible with all types of motor oil and additives. For maximum engine protection, XADO recommends XADO Atomic Oil or XADO HighWay metal conditioner with your next oil change. To order XADO Maximum atomic metal conditioner with Revitalizant, or any other XADO products, go to www.XADO.us. MSRP is $54.95.
Hi-Flow Blow-Off Valve
The allure of easy power through turbos and superchargers is often a hard siren song to ignore, and with that big payoff comes big technical challenges. When you’re into the throttle and the boost gauge is soaring, all that pressure has to go somewhere when the throttle closes. If your blow-off valve isn’t up to the job, you’re going to shell your turbo, blow a hose off, bend a throttle plate, or all three. The difficulty of a turbo installation is also compounded frequently by the lack of space, or the wrong shape of available space underhood. That’s where a company like Turbosmart comes in handy with their Vee Port Pro blow-off valve. Turbosmart’s Vee Port valve is said to be 20 percent smaller and 33 percent lighter than its predecessor, while offering the same high-flow volume. A high-flow port and new piston design provides quicker response and better sealing while a V-band clamp optimizes mechanical fastening to a welded flange. The Vee Port blow-off valve also has a 360-degree swivel vacuum fitting for tight spaces.
