Holley 850 & 950 Street HP
Street HPs have been around for a while in 650- and 750-cfm versions, and have gained a reputation for great performance at a great price, and now they're available in 850 and 950 versions. Although they are called Street HPs, they are equally at home on the track. They feature the popular Holley HP Series race-ready main body, but are calibrated for street/strip duty. The base plate also has several vacuum ports to cover PCV, power brakes, and other vacuum-driven accessories. Other features include mechanical secondaries for optimum tire-turning performance, power valve blow-out protection, non-stick gaskets, adjustable air bleeds, four-corner idle system, Ford kick-down, and down-leg boosters. And now for the best news: All this hard-core performance is available at a bargain price that will blow your doors off. The 850-cfm version, PN 0-82851, sells for $526.99 (Summit), and the 950 (PN 0-82951) is a steal at $542.39. It's like Christmas all over again!
New EQ Aluminum Head
If our prior experience with EQ cylinder heads is any indication, EQ's new aluminum cylinder head, dubbed the AC200BS, will be a grand slam. Two years ago, we built a Vortec-based 350 using EQ's cast-iron heads. The total bill, including the core engine, was about $3,400, and we pulled out 448 flywheel horsepower on 91-octane pump gas. The guys at EQ have been at it again, and they've got an improved aluminum version for standard small-blocks. Unlike their previous cylinder heads, the new AC200BS (and their cast-iron CH350 head) are now available assembled as an option. The bare castings are $449, or $539 assembled (suggested retail). Actual street price will be less. Specs on the lightweight head: 197cc intake runners, 65cc combustion chambers, 2.02/1.60-inch valves, straight plug, phosphor bronze guides, and up to 500 hp out of the box. Using a 9.5:1 ZZ4-based 350 engine and a dual-plane intake, these heads have made 411 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque on pump gas. Intake flow as measured by Shaver Specialty Engines peaked at 231 cfm at .500-inch lift. We'd like to get our hands on a set of these heads for a budget build, so stay tuned.

Dynamat Custom Kits
The Dynamat line of sound insulation products has been very popular with hot rodders who want to moderate the sound and vibration from engine and road noise. In the past, the use of the product has required custom measuring and cutting by the user, but Dynamat has now come up with application-specific kits that are precision-cut by a CNC machine, taking all the guesswork out. This will help the enthusiast who wants to know how much of the Dynamat Xtreme product to order-a difficult thing to calculate for a first-time user. Currently, Dynamat has seven applications, but they plan to offer a lot more in the coming months.
Vehicle Application List:
1964-1968 Ford Mustang
1967-1981 Chevy Camaro, Pontiac Firebird
1955-1957 Chevrolet, fullsize
1964-1972 Chevelle and GM A-body
1970-1974 Dodge Challenger
1970-1974 Plymouth Barracuda
Black Series ShockWave
Since its introduction in 1999, the ShockWave has proven to be a significant development in air suspensions. With billet bodies and adjustable damping, the Shockwave air suspension has become a favorite of both track rats and car show winners. Now with the tough economy, Ride Tech has decided a more economical model is in order. The Black series is not only an affordable option for air suspension, it's also the easiest way to install air suspension on your vehicle. The new Black series ShockWaves are designed around a quality steel body twin-tube non-adjustable shock absorber, combined with quality Firestone bellows. This makes an exceptional product that will stand the test of time. Systems start at $600.
COATINGS NO CHARGE!
In these tough times JE Pistons has decided that their popular SRP Professional piston kits will now include piston skirt coating at no extra charge. Every SRP Professional piston kit already includes several features used in top-level professional racing engines, such as a lightweight side relief (FSR) forgings, high-quality wrist pins, and precision CNC-machined ring grooves. Every SRP Professional piston kit also includes a high-performance JE Pro Seal Ring set. This set uses a 1.2mm steel LS7-style top ring, a 1.5mm Napier (hooked face) second ring, and 3mm oil ring. According to SRP, their Professional ring package is superior to the "cheap" ringset included with other piston kits, and can provide up to 60 percent less wear. SRP also claims their Professional pistons and rings are compatible with nitrous and forced induction and have been dyno proven to provide up to a 12 hp gain and 20 percent weight savings over other aftermarket forged pistons.
Digital ValveSpring Tester
Thanks to Proform's new digital valvespring tester, you can check the valvespring force of your cylinder heads with the heads bolted to the block. This cool tool can save you time and money, removing the aggravation of tearing apart your top end to check your springs. This adjustable digital valvespring force tester (PN 67601, $294.39 from Summit) is available with a digital force readout from zero to 600 pounds. According to Proform, the base of the tool can be adjusted to fit all common aluminum rocker lengths and offsets. The digital gauge displays force in 5-pound increments with peak hold and backlighting features. This looks like a tough tool; it's made from billet aluminum with a knurled handle area for a positive grip. Black anodizing protects the surface, with the bright readout powered by a single 9-volt battery.
Does your motor sound like it's going to explode at 55 mph while trying to keep up with traffic? Do you measure your mileage by gallons per mile instead of miles per gallon? If so, B&M thinks they might have the solution for you with their new 4L80E automatic overdrive. B&M's Street/Strip 4L80E transmission is a complete ready-to-run unit (less converter) for high-performance street and mild strip use, although we'd have to say that anything built for 800 hp is probably far from mild on the dragstrip. The transmission is said to provide firm shifts and feature a standard shift pattern. In any case, B&M's 800hp unit can be used with their Compushift Controller, which you'll need unless you've got a late-model car that already has a 4L80E. B&M's website offers the '93-96 version (PN 118001) for $1,874.25, and the '97-up version (PN 118002) for $2,008.13.
