It's been nine years since Art Morrison experimented with his own project '55 Chevy (Project GT55) at the Goodguys "Street Machine of the Year" competition. For the project he used his own chassis design, and has since assembled and sold 1,000 of the Tri-5 GT Sport chassis. Engineered in 2004 as a groundbreaking "bolt-on" high performance chassis for 1955-57 Chevrolets, Morrison has produced a product that's established a proven reputation for success.

Some of the industry's best known builders and droves of do-it-yourselfers around the world have used the Art Morrison Enterprises (AME) Tri-5 chassis to give their vehicles a more aggressive stance and smoother ride. Engineered with strategically placed crossmembers, the chassis increases torsional stiffness without resorting to oversized tubing and additional bulk. The concept was to give owners of a "shoebox" Chevy a sports car-like handling experience.
The AME GT Sport chassis uses tall spindles up front to reduce roll and improve camber gain; a variety of coilover shocks are available to fit every driving style and budget. A new rack and pinion setup provides precise steering with improved feedback.
The two main developments are the integrated exhaust pass-through that accommodate up to 3-inch exhaust without compromising ground clearance, and the triangulated 4-link suspension, thoroughly designed to eliminate wheel hop, improve traction, and minimize lateral movement.
The AME GT Sports chassis for the Tri-five platform has remained virtually unchanged through its production run, however, according to Craig Morrison there will be upcoming improvements after this 1,000th sale.
"[The] chassis been around for 10 years, we'll have upcoming tweaks," said Morrison in a phone interview. "The front and rear suspensions need updating."
Over the years AME has expanded its line of GT Sport chassis to include First Generation Corvettes and Camaros, 1949-54 Chevys, 1947-53 Chevy/GMC trucks, 1964-72 GM A-bodies, and 1959-64 Chevrolets.
