The original vinyl trim wasn't cracked, just faded. "I figured I could spend $30 on vinyl dye and see what happens, or shell out $3,000 redoing the interior," says Greg. He tried the former, and it worked great. "It's given me more money to put into the motor."

The Torino's best ET to date was accomplished with an 850-cfm carb, and Greg has added a Dominator since then. The new carb wouldn't mate up properly to the intake manifold, and since he invested many hours porting the intake, ditching it wasn't an option. To get the Dominator to fit, Greg ground the plenum opening, drilled and tapped new holes, and milled down the carb pad in order to accommodate the spacer.

"The machine shop milled the top of the 4150 pad at a 3-degree angle to offset my engine slant in the chassis, and opened up the carb pad to Victor size. They also re-drilled the flange for the Dominator pattern. My brother then did what I consider nice work, blending the runners into the carb pad. The carb mounts right up now, and it sits level and true. It also fits under the hoodscoop!"-Greg Pettit, 460ford.com

Greg cut a deal with Mark Artis at Texas Thunder Performance (Frisco, TX), to mini-tub his car for free. By helping Mark out around the shop for a summer, Greg exchanged his labor for the materials and hands-on training needed to mini-tub his Torino. As Greg recalls, "that was one great summer, and I learned a lot."
