1970 Ford Maverick Street FighterArtist: Jason Rushforth * www.jasonrushforth.comSince this section is called "Dream Car," I went to town and threw the budget to the wind. The great thing about this car, though, is that you could simulate a budget version of the concept for a song. I found four or five of these in the local classifieds for less than $2,500 as runners, and less than $1,000 as rollers, so it's not like you have to drop $10,000 on a rusty fastback Mustang or a 'Cuda just to get started. After you find that redheaded stepchild, get it lowered and find a nice set of rollers. Next, pull the drivetrain out of a wrecked Fox-body Mustang, five-speed and all. If there's a little money left, upgrade the springs and bolt on big sway bars. Now you have a fun, unique musclecar at a great price.
On the other end of the spectrum is my Street Fightin' Mav'. I smoothed the body and sliced some slots in the back of the hood to help cool the stroked 347 small-block. Up front I sliced a row of inverted louvers on either side of the hood, right above the turbos, to release some of the heat they build. Down in the valance is the intercooler, which is flanked by aluminum brake ducts and Hella spotlights to illuminate the road ahead. And right below them is a carbon fiber front splitter to push the wind into the intercooler (instead of under the car). To keep the back end stuck down and give it "the look," I cut a short Gurney-lip-style spoiler from a flat sheet of carbon fiber, and bolted it to the backside of the trunk lid with some button-head Allen bolts. Clean, simple, and very effective. I covered the car in silver because it complements the look and theme, and because it will never go out of style.-Jason Rushforth
