Bob Guido made the trek to Drag Week 2013 from Alberta, Canada, in his ’69 Mustang, along with his brother Richard who brought his own car, a ’65 GTO. The two brothers had each made several passes in their cars in Bowling Green and Indianapolis without any problems. Bob recorded several runs in the 11.6s and 11.7s, but his first run at Gateway Motorsports park got scary as he grabbed fourth gear. Watch what happened:
We rode along in the convoy with Richard’s GTO, Bill’s Fairlane, and Bob’s Mustang on the route to Memphis and the car seemed OK, although Bob reported that it would track any lines in the pavement. A trip to an alignment shop in Memphis the following morning revealed that the front subframe is bent a bit, but the car made it back to Bowling Green in more or less one piece, and if it breaks the starting beams at Beech Bend, it will have survived Drag Week 2013.
