When we come to Phoenix, we... When we come to Phoenix, we occasionally see Bryon Pryde wheeling his meticulous '69 Chevelle around town. It's got a mild 461 big-block that propels it to 12.60/107 quarter-miles, and on this day, 41-second autocross laps. Pryde relies on Hotchkis suspension front and rear, Baer Eradispeed rotors, and 16-inch Torque Thrusts with BFG Comp T/As. Mark Callahan (Scottsdale,... Mark Callahan (Scottsdale, Arizona) is old school when it comes to Chevelles. We were digging his blown 496 big-block '68, which does its best to grenade the M-22 four-speed behind it. He only shows and cruises it, and we did our best egging him on to autocross it, but no dice! Yeah, we know, it's not a... Yeah, we know, it's not a Chevelle, but a '65 Olds Cutlass. Real Chevelle guys won't mind though-it's genuine GM A-body tin. It belongs to Paul and Phillip McKee (Mesa, Arizona) and it has a Viper T56 six-speed behind a mild Olds 455. Suspension is Air Ride by Ridetech, wheels are 19x8 (front) and 20x8.5 (rear) Rushforths, and brakes are by Baer. "It's built to be driven," says Paul McKee, who wheeled it to a 38.8 autocross lap. Here, photog Robert McGaffin... Here, photog Robert McGaffin has mooched a drive in PHR contributor, Keith Kanak's exquisite '64 Chevelle, who used McGaffin's camera to take this shot of his own car. If you know Kanak, you know he lets no one drive his baby. (Wreck the car Robert, and it's curtains for your fancy camera!) Kanak drives it everywhere, including on the Hot Rod Power Tour a couple years back. It's one of the nicest all-around Chevelles we've met, and it's reliable as a rock. Showing the range of Chevelle... Showing the range of Chevelle expression is Steve Edling's Arrival Blue and brushed nickel '68. Turnkey built one of their LS2s with a Kenne Bell blower for 740 hp at the flywheel. Edling's Chevelle is also one of the first cars to receive TCI's new six-speed automatic trans that we told you about in our May issue. "Honestly, it's a '72 Chevelle."... "Honestly, it's a '72 Chevelle." We really enjoyed talking with the folks who came by to check out Project Laguna. We want to shout-out a thanks to the guys at Baer Brakes for letting us park in front of their tent.
