If you know NASCAR, you know California Speedway in Fontana, California. Twice a year, the roundy-round faithful descend in droves to root for their favorite heavily endorsed logo-emblazoned hero. They don't even realize that there's more than 1,320 feet of freshly paved dragstrip tucked away at the back of the facility-but we do. Apparently, Super Chevy knows this as well, since they've moved their event from the historic Pomona Raceway to these new Fontana digs.
Super Chevy events showcase a wide array of racing, from nitro coupe Pro Mods and special exhibition cars to wheel standers. Nonetheless, the real "meat and potatoes" is found in the bracket classes, where Average Joes vie for the cash to cover their weekend of racing. Or, if they're good enough, they can score serious money to put toward that new widget.
If you're a racer looking for inside tips, or if you'd like to get involved in racing, this is a great event to attend. In addition to the entertainment of the drag races and car show, you can pick up a lot of information by asking the experts in the vendor area, or by exploring the pits. Jawboning with fellow racers is the best way to find out what works, what doesn't, and what you can get away with. It's also a good way to meet fellow gearheads.
As the day progressed, round after round of bracket racing whittled down the field until the final few lined up to see who would take home the prize. There's a considerable amount of contingency money available for 2007, so if you're running the right parts and have your product stickers in place, you could end up with a nice stack of cash.
