Super Chevy Show 1967 Chevy
Super Chevy's Bracket 1 class is traditionally filled with NHRA Super Gas cars, many of them like Billy Peach's '67 Chevy II. The B1 bracket allows delay boxes, a device that allows a driver to "leave" off the top bulb, or even a slower competitor's top bulb (in the case of a cross-over delay box). The delay box is wired to the trans brake release circuit, and releases the trans brake--theoretically at least--at the exact moment the tree turns green. The end result is close racing, tight reaction times, and spectacular launches like this.

Super Chevy Show 1976 Chevy Malibu
"This car is my obsession. I used to drive it all the time before I got pregnant," says Bridget Powers of Kingsport, TN. "My ex-husband said I'd never be able to finish building this car." And whaddaya know, the car was finished before the baby. The 406 small-block under the hood propels the '79 Malibu to 6.80s at 100 mph in the eighth-mile (that's deep into the 10s for the rest of us).

Super Chevy Show Amber Davidson
Odell Davidson of Morristown, TN, must've always wanted his daughter, Amber, to be a drag racer, because he spent years teaching her in Junior Dragsters. Now at age 17, Amber has her sights set on the big boys, and propelling her there is a 406-inch small-block-powered dragster, which runs 5.40s in the eighth mile. At Bristol, however, it was not to be, as Amber red lighted in the early rounds. Maybe she should change her name to Green.

Super Chevy Show Girls
Delay boxes aren't the slightest concern to 18-year-old April Proffitt (left) or 16-year-old Jessica Thompson, both from Mountain City, TN. They were in Bristol to soak up some sun and cheer on Jessica's brother, Brandon Thompson, and his dragster.

Super Chevy Show 1967 Chevy
Travis Cox of Galax, VA, has a solid performer in his '67 Chevy II--it's packing a stout 327 small-block with Edelbrock RPM heads and intake. The combo relies on a built Turbo 350 trans and a 10-bolt rear loaded with an Eaton Detroit Locker Truetrac and 4.10 gears. On all motor and pump gas, Cox has gone a best of 8.22/78 in the eighth-mile (12.90s in the quarter).

You know we're suckers for Colonnade-style mid-'70s A-bodies, so when we met David Ford and his '76 Malibu, we had to stop and chat a while. Turns out, this stock 'bu has 80,000 miles on it and is in absolutely mint condition. David is from Louisville, TN, and tells us he drives it all over.

Super Chevy Show 1968 Chevy Camaro
Mark Grace owns his own machine shop--Smoky View Machine Shop in Maryville, TN, to be exact. That made it pretty easy for him to build the killer 13:1 377-cid small-block in his '68 Camaro. Mark tells us he's run a best of 6.75/101 in the eighth-mile, which equates to solid 10.60s in the quarter.
