Background
The Hinkle team brought a very strong 340 Mopar small block, and during the warm-up pulls the engine really showed it was in the hunt with the top contenders. The spectators in the cell were slack-jawed when during the scored pulls power dropped dramatically. A post-testing inspection revealed a sparkplug wire that had burned nearly clean through, meaning the engine was only hitting on seven for the scored portion of the event.

Backgrouond
The Blair Patrick team bought a little 332 cube version of the illustrious Ford FE big block. Topped with a Dove high-riser cylinder head, the little engine had plenty of airflow for it's displacement, and the Blair Patrick guys are experts on making these engines work. During the tune-up period jetting was reduced, timing was increased, and a fresh set of plugs were installed. The moves helped the score significantantly, leading to a strong showing.

Survival is an other company known for FE Ford big blocks, and this year's 427 was a real jewel. With 661 horsepower on tap, this engine is an excellent showcase of what these powerplants are capable of. With a strong showing right out of the gate during the warm-ups, the team cooly went in for jetting and timing changes in preparation for the scored qualifying pulls. This is an engine that FE fans can be proud of.
