The Brodix intake manifold is actually designed to run a 4500-series carb, and the spacer is actually an insert that adapts the smaller 4150 carb. The unconventional stepped transition where the spacer meets the runner roof is intentional. Lennart employs the step to dampen reversion pulses, in a manner somewhat akin to a sheer plate. Note the porting in the plenum and runners, credited for aiding distribution.
