2011 AMSOIL Engine Masters Challenge Alternates for Street and/or Xtreme Street Divisions

On Friday May 13, 2011 the selection process for the 2011 AMSOIL Engine Masters Challenge was developed in the Source Interlink Media Tech Center located in Irvine CA. There Ed Zinke along with Johnny Hunkins and special assistance from Yasmin Fajatin held the random drawing to provide ALTERNATES their Position for possible participation in this year’s event.

2011 AMSOIL Engine Masters Challenge Added Alternate Participant Event News

This year as an ALTERNATE you may have some interesting decisions to consider and reasons to continue to build your entry as there is a better chance than ever to get into this year’s program. An ALTERNATE may, as in the past, take the place of a Participant Team who forfeits their position in the competition (Dyno Run Schedule to be issued on August 15, 2011) by accepting the Participant Position when contacted. But this year there are some added differences to consider.

Open Positions up to & including 5 business days Prior to the start of the Event-
All ALTERNATES for 2011 within our two divisions, STREET and XTREME STREET, have been compiled into one list and your Position is assigned above. This year an ALTERNATE will be contacted as open positions in either division become available based on their Position Number on the alternate list as next in line in regards to an OPEN position, regardless of Division, and must decide within 5 business days of being contacted and offered an open position in the specific division to accept that position or wait for the next possible spot should one appear in either Division. An alternate that accepts an open position will fill the open position as a participant in a specific division. Upon accepting an open position in a specific division an alternate is "locked into" that division only as are all other participants in that division. An alternate that rejects an open position for whatever reason will retain their position number on the alternate list. Upon another open position in either division becoming available the highest position number on the alternate list is offered the open position for his acceptance or rejection of that open position.

Example- An OPEN position is presented to your team in XTREME STREET Division, but you had planned to build a STREET entry engine. Your Team Leader must advise accepting that open position in XTREME STREET or wait for the next available open position, which may be another Xtreme Street division open position or may be a Street division open position. ONLY the Team Leader can accept and advise the Rules Committee.

2011 AMSOIL Engine Masters Challenge Alternate Selection Overview

Alternates still not in competition as of October 3, 2011 at 8:00 AM may have the opportunity to participate based on compliance of engine delivery, event progression, and time availability. Please read these changes carefully to insure your understanding and compliance.

If the final engine on the days Monday through Thursday complete their final qualifying pull on or before 3:45 PM an alternate shall be selected to become a participant and fill the “open time slot position” which would exist between 3:45 PM & 5:00 PM. Referring to the Monday through Thursday run order an example of this “open time slot position” would be as follows. If an alternate accepts the “open time slot position”, he/she becomes a participant. It is his/her responsibility for the engine to start/fire no later than 4:30 PM to be eligible to compete in the “open time slot position”. If the alternate that accepted the “open time slot position” cannot start/fire the engine before 4:31 PM he/she will be scored as a participant that DNF (did not finish the required dyno pulls).

Monday and Wednesday of the event the final participant in the Xtreme Street division completes his/her final qualifying pull on or before 3:45 PM. An “open time slot position” in the Street division is made available to the highest ranking alternate according to the random drawing made on May 16, 2011. If the highest ranking alternate accepts the “open time slot position” he/she competes as a participant in that division. If the highest ranking alternate declines the “open time slot position” in Street the offer to become a participant in Street shall be made to the next highest ranking alternate until there is acceptance by an alternate or all the alternates have been offered the “open time slot position”.

Tuesday and Thursday of the event the final participant in the Street division completes his/her final qualifying pull on or before 3:45 PM. An “open time slot position” in the Xtreme Street division is made available to the highest ranking alternate according to the random drawing made May 16, 2011. If the highest ranking alternate accepts the “open time slot position” he/she competes as a participant in that division. If the highest ranking alternate declines the “open time slot position” in Xtreme Street the offer to become a participant in Xtreme Street shall be made to the next highest ranking alternate until there is acceptance by an alternate or all the alternates have been offered the “open time slot position”.

Year after year the question comes up from Participants and readers of both POPULAR HOT RODDING and ENGINE MASTERS Magazines alike as to how do ALTERNATES in the AMSOIL Engine Masters Challenge get assigned their numbers. For 2011 we booked the Source Interlink Media Tech Center in Irvine CA and with the help of Video Producer Ron James bring you this exclusive inside look.

Two cameras were rolling and as in one take you now get to see and know the inside scoop- it is and has been a total random drawing. With the help of Editor Johnny Hunkins who posted Team Names as they were randomly drawn and Publisher’s Assistant, Yasmin Fajatin, who pulled ping pong balls one-by-one with Team Names on them out of an AMSOIL Air Cleaner the list is complete. Our 19 ALTERNATES now have their Team Position and wait for their possible chance to participant. To all- Good Luck!
