In an automatic sweep test (where the operator sets a starting and ending rpm range), the dynamometer will automatically control the engine's load to accelerate it through the preset rpm range. Various rates of acceleration (rpm per second) are offered. DTS designed the load control system as a "proportional band" type system, which allows the engine to do what it wants too naturally. An internal combustion engine is not linear in its power output through a sweep range, so DTS does not hold the engine to a precise rate of acceleration. View Related Article
