Stroked For Power

A Milodon windage tray was installed to control oil, along with the Milodon pump and pick-up. The lubrication system is no place to skimp on price in a high performance engine.

We found that the tray's side louvers required dimpling for comfortable rod clearance because of the longer stroke crank. Always check clearances with custom assemblies.

Porting was extensive on both the intake and exhaust side, essentially a full race port job for maximum flow. On the bench, peak flow pegged 322 cfm on the intake side at our max valve lift of 0.670-inch, and 240 cfm exhaust.

The bare castings were filled with Mopar 2.05/1.60-inch long-stem valves, and Crane's springs, titanium retainers, and machined locks.

Erson's complete roller rocker kit for the W-2 and W-5 applications comes fully assembled on the shafts, ready to bolt on. We opted for the higher 1.6:1 ratio for greater valve lift. Linking the rockers to the lifters is a set of custom Smith Brothers pushrods.

The W-5 headers from Tube Technologies, Inc. (TTI), feature 1 7/8-inch primary tubes.

The topping is a Mopar Performance M-1 tunnel ram and a pair of tunnel ram calibrated Demon carbs. The MP intake is an especially effective design, and the Demon carbs performed flawlessly, delivering a textbook fuel curve in our application.

Other block mods included clearancing the lifter valley to allow the Crane roller lifters to be installed, and the addition of an oil bypass from the right oil galley in the lifter valley to the left. The front main feed was modified to receive oil from the left gallery.
