How did our big Mopar small-block perform? We were impressed with 660 hp coming in at 6600 rpm and a phenomenal 583 lb-ft of torque clocking the meter at 5200 rpm. The combo of cubes, cam, and flow make for a monster mill.

Stroker crankshafts typically require clearancing the block for the rotating assembly. With the cap screw Eagle rods, the notch at the bottom of the cylinders we cut with a die grinder was minimal. Mopar small-blocks do not suffer from the same limitation in camshaft clearance found in some other engines with stroker combinations.

Our crankshaft was internally balanced with heavy metal inserts in the counterweights. External balancing is cheaper, but internal balancing will reduce high rpm crankshaft flex.

Gapless Top rings were file-fit to Total Seal's specs. The top ring's gap is effectively eliminated by an auxiliary rail, which fits the specially machined top ring.

Speed-Pro's Competition Series bearings have a unique 3/4-groove configuration, increasing journal oiling, while preserving bearing area in the most critical portion of the surface. These bearings have a chamfer that clears the filet radius of the aftermarket crank's journal.

Adding a stoker crank can be one of the most effective power enhancing mods in a build-up. This 4-inch Mopar Performance crank transforms a basic 360 combo into a healthy 400-plus cubes.

Setting up the block for the Milodon single-idler gear drive requires drilling and tapping a mounting hole for the bracket. The crank gear required an extra-large chamfer to fully seat against the aftermarket crank's large fillet at the journal. The cam was installed at 104-degree intake centerline.

Our Mopar Performance W-5 cylinder heads were fully prepped for maximum performance. The first step was a complete Serdi valve job. Machining included cutting the chambers out to the head gasket line to reduce shrouding, and a 75-degree cut in the bowls.

Checking the crankshaft's endplay becomes especially important with aftermarket cranks, as the journal's filet radius may hang the crank up on the edge of the bearing. Stock cranks featured undercut filets.

Clearance for the rear main cap fastener is limited under the oil pump, and interference is always an issue with studs. We used a flanged 12-point nut without a washer, and trimmed the stud near flush with the top for maximum clearance. The oil pump body was marked and the housing clearanced to allow the pump to sit flat in place without contacting the fastener.
