Pro Action heads are offered in many different sizes and configurations. The smaller port designs work great on the street, while the larger ports are designed to make big power on the track. Port volumes are offered from 180 cc all the way up to and past 235 cc.

The angled plugs keep the wet incoming fuel charge from flooding the plug insulator and also bias the fire more toward the exhaust valve, which is the hottest area of the chamber. This helps prevent detonation.

You can go with stainless or titanium valves and retainers, and there is plenty of roof engineered into Pro Action Lightning heads for big springs. Valvespring retainers with an inner shoulder are recommended to pilot the spring. These heads have more metal in the spring seat area to handle larger-than-stock spring diameters.

Shaver Specialties uses dyno testing to check different head compression and intake combinations. It's important to try and use as many parts from your final combination when dyno testing, such as headers, mufflers, and induction. This limits surprises once the powerplant is installed in the chassis.

Valve seat angle is carefully controlled both at the seat and on the valve itself. A constant stream of cutting fluid both lubricates and cools the valve during this critical machining process. If the valve is allowed to get too hot, heat checking will flake away at the valve.

To eliminate cupping due to rocker wear, valve stem tips should always be resurfaced whenever the valves are out for a rebuild. The valve length from tip to seat is set with the micrometer to equalize valvetrain geometry.
