A look at the underbelly shows the 8 ports coming straight down from the plenum, which mate to the heads ports in a direct shot to the valves. Nicely done.

With the upper plenum removed, the integral intercooler can be seen as the four liquid to air cooling cores which slip directly in the air path. Intercooling is vital to getting the punch a positive displacement blower can offer.

The intercooler cores themselves are innovative, relying upon a dense fin construction for maximum heat transfer. Heat removed from the induction charge equals more power at the crank, and a cooler mixture tolerates more pressure without detonation.

Getting down to the foundation, the LC3 features a new block casting, with improvements in structure and materials. The architecture of these all-aluminum engines is remarkably stout. Bore size is dropped down two millimeters compared to normally aspirated Northstars.

The Northstar dual overhead cam heads are state of the art, and improved for the LC3. With the heads mounted to the block at 45-degrees, the intake ports are nearly vertical, mating directly with the supercharger's straight-down ports.

The pent-roof four-valve chamber is the preferred layout for flow efficiency, taking packing the cylinder with more valve area than is possible with a two-valve head. The increased curtain area makes for a fat flow curve from low lifts.

While remaining of powdered metal construction as in other Northstar engines, the rods are redesigned and heat-treated to tolerate higher stress. The pistons are anodized in the ring land area for heat and wear resistance, while the skirts receive an anti-friction coating. The pin diameter has been increased to 24mm to cope with the loads of supercharging.
