Mopar Engine Engine Block
Our supercharger plans centered around a very typical 440 combo, basically a 0.030-inch-over 440 block with a factory steel crank, forged pistons, and Edelbrock heads, for a compression ratio of 10.3:1. This engine had produced as much as 550 hp in normally aspirated form, with a COMP 239/247-duration @ 0.050-inch, 0.573/0.597-inch lift, solid lifter cam.

Mopar Engine Gaskets
Since we were making the move to boost, and intended to keep compatibility with pump gas with a fairly high boost pressure, the engine's 10.3:1 compression ratio was deemed too high. Since ultimately this was a test of the blower's power potential, rather than the expensive route of changing pistons, we decided to try a set of extra-thick rubber-coated copper head spacer/gaskets from Flatout Gaskets.

Mopar Engine Copper Gasket
We have used the Flatout copper gaskets in the past, and found them to be of very good quality. They are available in a variety of thicknesses, with these spacer units measuring 0.125-inch-thick. The spacers can be run in conjunction with conventional head gaskets. With this combination, we would reduce the compression ratio by over two points, to 8.1:1.

Mopar Engine Cylinder Head Dowel
Because of the thickness of the gasket stack with the spacers, the cylinder head dowels in the block needed to be reset, or replaced with longer ones, to provide an adequate register into the head.

With the piston parked at TDC, it's easy to see the extra volume provided by the copper spacers. Flatout gaskets are shipped with a proprietary elastic coating that provides a good seal for compression and fluids. We just ran them out of the box, with no additional sealers, and they sealed as tight as a drum, even at high boost.

Besides lowering the compression ratio, we also changed the cam to another COMP solid grind, essentially the same profile as we had before, but ground with a wider 114-degree lobe separation angle, as recommended by The Supercharger Store.

Mopar Engine Intake Manifold
Topping the engine is a high-flowing Edelbrock Victor intake manifold. The single plane should provide better distribution in a blown carbureted application than a dual plane. With the thick spacers at the heads, the intake manifold will require equally thick gaskets or spacers. We added gaskets between the valley pan and the intake flange.

Mopar Engine Pulley Installation
With the cam and compression changes made, all that was left was to bolt on the blower. The drive adapter and crank pulley bolt right in place on the damper.

Mopar Engine Blower Mount
The blower's mounting bracket is easily assembled to the upper left of the engine, and The Supercharger Store even provides all of the hardware. The tensioner/idler is a very heavy-duty design and is integrated into the mount.
