This Is Your Captain Speaking...One reason I didn't take this photo (Dave Milcarek did) is because I'm behind the wheel. The year is 1998 and the place is Englishtown, N.J. My '87 LX Mustang is on the front half of a 10.20 run that tripped the timers at 131 mph. The combo was a DSS 310-inch small-block Windsor with TFS heads, a GT-40 intake, a custom COMP cam, Stahl long-tube headers, and a non-intercooled Vortech S-trim blower. (Note the incipient rust under the car. Not only did I drive it to the track, I drove it in the snow.) Launching on the foot brake with a manual-valve C4 at 5,000 rpm, it left straight as an arrow, but got all kinds of silly at the top end. The following run, I split the block in half right down the cam journals.
